Description

When in the spring of 2007 the Dutch amusement park Toverland came to us with the idea to build a Trojan horse, we were impressed by this fascinating task in a way that we were litarally captured. The challenge of building a wooden horse basically was not a new one, but this horse was supposed to challenge us.

Several tons of steel and concrete form a frame that has enough weight to withstand any storm. The frame was supplemented with over 1,000 wooden parts, all of which had to be cut by the CNC joinery machine to fit to the skeleton. Also nail-plate-trusses were used for the intricate construction. The complex CAD and CNC machining was carried out by our professional engineer Stefan Johannesmann and has been successfull.

A horse with names and numbers / weights and measures:

height: 9,0 m
lenght: 7,0 m
width: 3,5 m
steel: 2.900 kg
concrete: 6.500 kg
wood: 15 cbm larch timer
400 sqm boards
fasteners: approx. 40.000 nails
5.000 screws
1.000 stainless steel plate connectors

Supplemented by shields, paddles and ropes which hold together everything a 9 m high horse was created. The delivery was made in three parts by heavy transport and assembly on site was carried out on a day where the entire horse then got a water repellent nano treatment.

Now it is visible to everyone as a leisure experience in the sculpture park Toverland and thrilled the audience there.
